Center, Miss Sheila the dance teacher, played by Kay Gilley, has taken Susanna, right, played by Carrie Olson, Charley and their big, unruly chocolate Lab Scout next door to the feed store to see if the resourceful Mr. Barker, left, played by Sam Conner, can find a way to make a tutu and dance slippers fit Scout. While she’s there, Miss Sheila talks Mr. Barker into being Herr Drosselmeier in the little town’s first-ever production of The Nutcracker. The scene is from The Dog Who Saved The Nutcracker. It is a new musical based on Wharton author Marilyn Sebesta’s children’s book Scout, The Dog Who Saved The Nutcracker, with music by Houston composer Suzanne Davis Marion. The last three performances will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Plaza Theatre in Wharton. Friday and Saturday’s performances are at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee is at 2:30 p.m. General admission is $17 each. Seniors, students and groups of 10 or more are $15 each.
