The Wharton Book Review Club announces that it is about to begin the new season.

The first meeting will be Monday, Jan. 14, with Jenna McEachern, an author from Austin reviewing her newest book DKR The Royal Scrapbook.

This is the life story of legendary UT Coach Darryl Royal written and told by someone who knew and honored him.

It tells of the wit and inspiration that he brought to the world of sports and all who knew him.

This meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. for a time to meet the author and have coffee and cookies. The program will be from 10 until 11 a.m.

On Feb. 11 the club will have Doc Blakely, who travels and speaks throughout the U.S. and has earned America’s highest awards for humorous speaking.

He will review A New Look At Nine Years With The Indians by Herman Lehman. Lehman was one of the last Indian captives on the Texas frontier and this is his detailed story.

Blakely says this is personal since he is a descendent of the Choctaw Indian Nation and his grandmother traveled The Trail of Tears.

March 18 will bring back a club favorite Merle Hudgins and the April 8 speaker will be announced in January.

May 13 plans are for a speaker from Houston and a luncheon.

Season memberships are now available.

All meetings are held at the Wharton County Historical Museum at 10 a.m.
