Tigers ousted from 3A playoffs
Giddings prevails by 8-6 and 8-3 scores

      SEALY - The number 8 turned out to be a lucky number for Giddings' baseball team in a Class 3A bi-district playoff series against Wharton at Matt 'Mutt' Strusell Field over the weekend. The Buffaloes rallied to beat the Tigers 8-6 in a four-hour marathon that ended after midnight on Friday.

Ciruti steps down after 33 years as WHS coach

      After 33 years of successful baseball coaching Wharton's Floyd Ciruti announced Monday that he's retiring from the sport he loves so much. Ciruti, 57, actually made the decision before the season started but waited to tell his players until after Saturday's playoff game against Giddings in Sealy.

WHS doubles teams play at state tennis tournament
      AUSTIN - Wharton's two doubles tennis teams returned home Tuesday after competing in the Class 3A University Interscholastic League State Tennis Tournament at Pennick-Allison Tennis Center. Heavy rains on Monday pushed back the start time for the tournament by almost four hours.

Hunt very busy on first day of the job

      New Wharton Athletic Director Stacey Hunt hit the ground running Monday morning. Hunt met with his current staff in the morning to discuss his expectations of the athletic program. He had his first off season workout with the high school's underclassmen later in the day during athletic period.

WJH tennis teams finish strong
      Wharton's Junior High boys and girls tennis teams completed a successful year over the weekend. The District 24-3A tournament was played on Saturday. The 7th grade boys team finished fourth and C.J. Roberts finished fourth in boys singles.

      WEIMAR - East Bernard's baseball season came to an end Saturday night when Edna's Michael Vickery belted a three-run shot in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 12-9 Class 2A Region IV win at Veteran's Park Strickland Field in Weimar.
